Practicing self-care and prioritizing mental health is a hot topic in the health and wellness world these days. The more common forms of relaxation and acts of de-stressing and unwinding are exercising, napping, reading a good book, or maybe even taking a vacation, but one thing we’ve learned about recently is how the arts can contribute to feelings of relaxation and peace. As a matter of fact, folks are attending artist-instructed art classes to shut the outside world off and focus on the act of creation!
We sat down with a few women from The UAB Institute for Arts in Medicine to get the real scoop on how the arts can lead to positive mental health. Here’s what we learned:
