The Softer Side of COPD
It’s not uncommon with chronic bronchitis or emphysema to experience symptoms of anxiety and depression. The stress of navigating the healthcare system, the frustration of having to adjust, the sheer energy required for each breath – it can take an emotional toll. If you’re experiencing these feelings, it’s important to know you’re not alone and you’re not stuck.
Connect with your care team
If you need help figuring out how to talk your doctors or finding a new in-network specialist or mental health provider, talk to your Health Advisor. We can help you make sure you’re asking the right questions of the right doctors (e.g. when to talk to your pulmonologist vs. your primary care physician) so that you’ve got the answers you need and your doctors are all on the same page.
Connect with a support group
You actually have a whole host of condition-specific communities to choose from! These support groups are great because you can see how other people with the same symptoms have coped with them. You can find an online community, like PatientsLikeMe, or find a local support group. Again, your Health Advisor can help!
Connect with the people closest to you
Talking to or even just spending time with people who care can really help you feel better. If you’re not comfortable talking to your friends, family, or community members, your Health Advisor is just a phone call away.
