Tell us about your overall health before getting started in the Pack Health program.

I wasn’t just physically out of shape, I was also emotionally and psychologically unhealthy. I really lacked motivation and felt terrible. I was beyond excited when I got that letter in the mail explaining the opportunity I had with Pack Health. I thought to myself how I couldn’t handle trying another diet, but Pack Health seemed so much better.

I thought to myself, “this is my chance”. I immediately called and signed up.

Talk to us about the emotional side of your experience.

It wasn’t that I had low self-esteem. It was almost a feeling of being at a certain age and feeling like I couldn’t be in shape anymore and that I’d lost my chance. It was almost a state of depression.

Tell us about your relationship with your Health Advisor, Evan.

I was nervous because we didn’t know each other and were talking to each other regularly and about pretty private matters. I pictured this short man in a cubicle with glasses who was going to beat the information into me, but it was so warm and friendly and inviting. I immediately felt at ease and at home talking with him.

What was the first Tiny Step you set?

I remember my first Tiny Step because I still stick to it every day. I am to drink water before every meal. I wasn’t much of a water drinker before, but now I don’t go anywhere without it. He really showed me the importance of staying hydrated throughout the day. It’s now a lifestyle of mine that Evan helped me apply to my life.

What differences did you see after 12 weeks?

I had lost weight which was nice, and my doctor was happy with the way my test results went. My family and friends had noticed too, which was nice. Most importantly, I could now do things that I hadn’t been able to do in a long time physically and now it has motivated me to keep pushing. It didn’t feel like the end of the road anymore, it felt like a new journey!

I have always been a happy person, but now when I wake up, I am excited to go on my walk. I walk 4 miles each morning and that nourishes my well-being and my soul. Evan encourages me to do things like that and that helps me feel in control of my health.

The 3 tools that help me the most from the Pack are the pad where I write my tiny steps, the MyPlate magnet especially, and the weekly diary for logging my food and exercise. The magnet is still on my fridge!

Pack Health is my lifestyle. It is what I think about every day. My Health Advisor sends me texts and encouragements — it feels like it is apart of me now and now this is my future too.

What is your goal moving forward?

I really just want to continue what I’m doing now and build on that. In addition, I want to work on my body more and keep up with my fitness, remembering my body is a machine and asking myself what fuel I want.

When people ask me about Pack Health I immediately tell them that it’s not a diet or a program-specific, it’s about how you want to handle your life to make a better life for yourself!
