How’d you hear about Pack Health, and what made you want to sign up?
I’m an employee at UAB, and Pack Health was offered to me through our health rewards program. I was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago and I thought having a health coach would help keep me on track with my eating and ultimately help me with my health-related choices.
I also want to add that I’m just so happy that UAB offered the program. That as an employer they said, ‘Hey, if you have this condition, we have a great resource for you.’ I think that’s so special!
We’re so happy to have you! How has your experience been so far? How’s it been with Marshelle?
Its been great! She’s always so supportive and found joy in my successes. She was my cheerleader. She sent me meal plans to help me make better food choices, and she’d send text messages asking how I was doing. It was always a great text to receive and kept me motivated and accountable.
What’s been the biggest thing you’ve accomplished while working with Marshelle?
My weight loss! During my time I lost 30 pounds!
How has Pack Health helped you change your lifestyle, and what keeps you motivated to change?
She would encourage me and give me ways to stay on track. For instance, we set little goals to encourage more walking at work. This would keep me alert and fresh as the days went by.
Did you two set any specific Tiny Steps you’d like to share?
The main Tiny Step we set was around getting my exercise in. I wanted to walk three times a week, and luckily at UAB we have walking trails inside, so it makes it easier for me to get up and go walk. Knowing that I had that Tiny Step gave me the motivation to get it done. We talked about diet a lot as well. I’m trying to incorporate healthier foods into my diet. She helped me focus on whole foods. I felt more accomplished when I ate whole foods and it made me enjoy being in the kitchen again.
What advice would you give to someone looking to sign up for one of our programs?
First, decide what is most important to you and make sure you are discussing that with your Health Advisor. This will help with where you want to be at the end. Stick with it because you will get great results!
