We’ve previously talked about using yoga to cope with stress, especially during the holiday season, but now, let’s focus on how to find your center on a regular basis. Relaxation can help you better deal with everyday stress, especially stress relating to your health. When you’re worried about when your next flare-up might hit, or when your next IBD episode is going to strike, you’re unable to fully focus on self-care – both mental and physical. But, here’s a thought, if you’re spending time doing yoga when you’re stressed, maybe stress can make you stronger?
These three yoga poses can help combat stress by improving your physical and mental health, all under 10 minutes! So, take a little time to treat yourself and recenter your mind, body, and soul.
01 Cobbler’s Pose
First, grab your mat and take a seat with your back and neck aligned, and imagine being pulled upwards from a string that’s attached to the ceiling, so your body is as straight as possible. Place your legs in front of you in a butterfly pose with the bottoms of your feet touching and your knees pointed outwards. Take in a deep inhale from your nose and let it out through an open mouth exhale. Repeat this for 10 breaths.
02 Reclined Cobbler Pose
After completing your first pose, lay down on your mat in a similar position with the bottoms of your feet touching and your knees pointed outward. Make sure your neck and back are pressed flat against the ground and your mat. Take in long, deep breaths from your nose, and exhale from your mouth. Repeat this for 10 breaths.
03 Savasana Pose
After you complete your rounds of breathing from the previous pose, stay down on your mat and extend your feet outwards and your hands down by your side. Close your eyes and try to clear your head. Take in long, deep breaths from your nose, and exhale from your mouth. Repeat this for 10 breaths.
Are you feeling more centered and energized? There are other ways to unwind and refocus on yourself after the stresses of everyday life interject. Do you have a hobby? Hobbies are a wonderful way to relax, and even benefit your health!
