Pain Awareness Month – Overlooked and Undertreated

September is Pain Awareness Month, which is a time to raise public awareness surrounding the issues of pain and pain management, especially those with chronic pain. With over 50 million affected in the U.S., it’s a public health crisis that needs attention without stigma or shame.

Chronic pain is the type that lasts longer than six months. It can be mild to severe, intermittent to continuous, annoying to completely disabling. The physical, social and even financial consequences for an individual living with it can be devastating. And for many, it can be lifelong.
